Safeguarding the rights, safety and well-being of research participants
Institutional Ethics Committee (IEC) comprises members from medical, scientific, non-medical and non-scientific fields, whose responsibility is to ensure the protection of the rights, safety and well-being of human subjects involved in a clinical trial. IEC is responsible for the review, approval and monitoring of academic and regulatory trials besides other research studies.
The Executive Vice-Chairman, Cancer Institute (WIA) is the institutional authority under whom the IEC has been constituted. IEC is independent in its functioning and decision making. The IEC at the Cancer Institute (WIA) functions in accordance with New Drugs and Clinical Trials Rules 2019 and National Ethical Guidelines for Bio-Medical and Health Research Involving Human Participants, Good Clinical Practice Guidelines for Clinical Trials in India and other applicable national, international regulations and guidelines as set out in the SOP.

The IEC is registered and approved by the Central Drug Standard Control Organization with the certificate valid till 21st April 2024 – Re-Registration No. ECR/235/Inst/TN/2013/RR-19
