The Department of Medical Oncology, Cancer Institute (WIA) is committed to improving the diagnosis and treatment of patients with cancer.
From its inception in 1970 as a separate Sub-Specialty at the Institute, the Department of Medical Oncology at the Cancer Institute has been involved in patient care services in almost all divisions of Oncology including breast, gastrointestinal, head and neck, lung, bone, soft tissue and uro-oncology.

Our Mission is to control cancer in Chennai, India and the world over. To meet this mission, we engage in a broad range of basic research and outstanding programs that integrate patient care, research and prevention of cancer that involves education for undergraduate and graduate students, trainees, professionals, employees and the public.
